About

John Wigley was born in the South of England, grew up in the North and now finds himself settled in the Midlands. In a sense he can't say he knows where he truly belongs, though is aware that belonging is a fundamental quest, as is our search for the meaning of why and for how long we are here. Using humour and polite understatement, his work explores such uncertainty and insecurity, where things are misplaced or sit awkwardly. These actions or material relationships reflect a life lived and slightly skewed.

Graduating in Fine Art from Reading University, the Royal College of Art and the British School of Rome, his career as an artist and lecturer has involved national and international exhibitions and exchanges in both Europe and America.

He is currently an Associate Professor in Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art, Birmingham City University, UK
